Basic Courses Structure

All our courses are run in a professional manner and to a high standard with your needs and requirements at the top of our list. Although the general way which in which our courses are run are similar details differ depending on the type of course and its location.

We do not operate courses if less than 4 people have enrol on them, the reason for this is that we know from experience that our clients not only benefit from the personal tuition we try to deliver but also by group activity both out on location and during critiques and discussions and we therefore feel that we can not deliver the full benefits our courses are capable of with less than this number. If for this reason a course has to be cancelled at least 21 day notice will be given and either an alternative course offered or, if this is not possible or convenient to you, a full refund of deposits will be given.

Weekend courses

These offer an extended chance to develop skills and technique with a carefully planned programme that maximises the learning opportunity. The experienced tutors of TakingPictures.com work with the group during the evenings as well as during the day. This, uniquely, allows creative ideas, tutorial themes and techniques to be practised during the following days shoot. In this way the advice of the tutor can be fully explained and considered the night before, questions can be asked and ideas developed, hence allowing all of your time on location the next day to be spent taking pictures. Advice and guidance will be offered throughout the shoot and then that evening, the group can gather again over a meal and a drink to review and discuss the successes and the not so successful results of that day. Gentle, constructive critique and advice is then offered that can be practised the following day.

Depending on the time available during the final day, some critique and advice will be offered however all participants in a weekend course will also be invited to join an internet based web conference during which a review of the weekends lessons will be offered as well as a final round of advice and critique for all those who took part. Further information regarding our follow up web conferences is given in the 'about our online support' section

Single day courses

When it’s difficult to get away for a whole weekend, our one day courses are highly recommended. They are remarkable not only for what we manage to squeeze into a single day’s shooting but also for the follow-up support that’s included with your course fee. When taking one of our weekend courses, it’s our evening technique lectures and critique sessions provide the real means by which your learning advances. When we only have the single day, we concentrate on ensuring we spend as much time as possible shooting and then provide the critique and follow up advice as a web conference session. We make wide use of the Internet in order to support our course participants before during and after each of our courses. The culmination of this support is the web conference session where critique and advice is provided for each course participant.
